Supplemental Health Insurance, depending on the level of coverage and type of plan, will pay a fixed amount for every day a woman is in the hospital due to childbirth.  As an example, for a four day stay at a hospital, the plan can pay the policyholder upwards of $4,000 or more.

In addition, depending on the level of coverage and type of plan, if any type of surgery is required (e.g., C-Section), the plan can pay a specified dollar amount for that as well (upwards of $700 or more).

Payments are made directly to the policyholder and are tax free.

The only requirement is that the applicant can’t be pregnant at time of application and can’t give birth for a certain number of months (e.g., 10 months from application date).
